As the season progresses, drawing nearer to the postseason, we naturally get more and more looks at LeBron’s upcoming postseason shoe. I’m not sure what LeBron—who plays for a team that wears black, red, orange and white—will actually do with the Nike LeBron 8 PS “Royal,” which features a predominantly royal blue colorway with some black accenting, but this has to be one of the best colorways of any of the LeBron 8’s to date. The LeBron 8 PS features a lighter feel for the homestretch of the long season, favoring a light one-piece Hyperfuse upper, full-length Cushlon midsole, visible Max Air in the heel and Zoom Air in the forefoot. Check out plenty more looks under the cut. As you can see this is a significant departure from the product that will hit shelves, but at the same time the prototype seems to represent a deconstructed, stripped down version (even the Flywire is bare, without the extra layer of Hyperfuse added on). I think everyone can agree that the retail-version of the LeBron 9 is the better of the two (check out the Miami Hurricanes-inspired colorway), but would this deconstructed “9” prototype have been worth purchasing? Did Nike have a shoe in mind for LeBron James in the event of another Miami Heat championship? I guess we’ll never officially know, but it seems pretty likely that they did and that you’re looking at it — the Nike LeBron 11 Elite Red/Gold.The shoe’s red upper is an obvious Heat tie-in, the tone stretching from heel to toe and perfectly balancing Miami’s white home or black away uniforms. And the gold is even more fitting, of course, a regal nod to King James as well as to the championship trophy that was not to be.No word yet on a Nike LeBron 11 Elite Red/Gold release date, so stay tuned for updates. Celebratory shoes aren’t always scrapped simply because the event-worth-celebrating didn’t turn out as planned.Nike LeBron 11 Elite SEUniversity Red/Metallic GoldStyle #: 695226-670Images via MN.
